SACRAMENTO, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–The largest wine show of its kind in the Western Hemisphere, the Unified Wine & Grape Symposium broke its own record this week by drawing a crowd of 12,400 guests to the Sacramento Convention Center.

Visitors from every corner of the globe, including Afghanistan, Australia, South Africa, China and Europe, attended the three-day industry event to view presentations, displays and enjoy wine tasting aimed at providing insights and information shaping the wine industry.
“We believe the two key drivers for greater attendance this year are an improved economy and the relevance of our symposium session topics,” said John Aguirre, president of the California Association of Winegrape Growers (CAWG), one of the show’s co-organizers. “The wine and grape industry is fast changing, complex and highly competitive, and people want the latest information, research and analysis as a way to stay competitive in 2012.”
Each day of the event included sessions featuring diverse panels of experts addressing four topic areas: grape growing, winemaking, marketing/public relations and business/operations. On Wednesday and Thursday the event hosted an industry trade show with nearly 650 vendors from around the world displaying their products and services.
“Solid information and research are essential to our industry’s success. And, as growers and vintners plan for the year ahead, the Unified Symposium strives to provide an overview of emerging industry trends and the information people need to make sound decisions,” said Lyndie Boulton, executive director for American Society for Enology and Viticulture (ASEV).
