The celebration showcases Virginia wines at more than 500 participating restaurants and wine shops across the state. Dubbed Love by the Glass, the Virginia Wine & Dine Month is a partnership between the Virginia Wine Marketing Office and the Virginia Tourism Corporation. The idea is to encourage Virginia restaurants and wine shops to feature more Virginia wines by the glass.
The Love by the Glass promotion began in 2010 and quickly grew in popularity. Virginia is home to more than 200 wineries and ranks fifth in the nation for wineries and for wine grape production. It was recently named one of the 10 best wine travel destinations for 2012 by Wine Enthusiast Magazine.
During Wednesday's event Williamsburg Winery owner Patrick Duffeler introduced the “Colonial Virginia Wine Trail,” which features Williamsburg Winery, Saudee Creek Vineyard, New Kent Winery and James River Cellars.
