Help Children and Enjoy Wine at - Grape Experiences | swirl. sip ...

Posted on March 19, 2012

I’ll actually be in Sonoma next week but if you live in Chicago or are close by, plan to enjoy some wine from Sonoma County, California on March 27…right here in the City of Big Shoulders (or Big Wine Glasses)!  And do your part by helping children and their families at the same time~which is the most important point…

The Sonoma County Vinters Association and the Sonoma County Winegrape Commission are working with Visa to sponsor what appears to be a fantastic wine tasting aptly named Sonoma in the City .  It’s open to the public on Tuesday, March 27 from 6-8:30pm at Bin 36, 339 N. Dearborn right here in downtown Chicago.  Ticket prices are $40.00 and if you use your Visa Signature card, you can receive 10% off the entrance fee.  Over one hundred wineries will be represented including Chateau St. Jean, Dry Creek, Ferrari Carano Vineyards and Winery, Gloria Ferrer Caves and Vineyard, La Crema Winery, MacRostie Winery and Vineyards, Murphy-Goode Winery, and Rodney Strong Vineyards.  If interested you must RSVP by March 23 so click on the link above to register!

You know that I’m all about the wine, but I’m also all about the fact that a portion of the proceeds go to the charity, Chicago’s Almost Home Kids, which provides a Transitional Care Program for children with complicated health care needs who are ready to be discharged from a hospital but for whom preparations at home need to be made.  They also provide a Respite Care Program which offers children a comfortable place to stay with access to medical and nursing support while their parents/caregivers tend to personal or family issues.  Please check out their website for more information.

For those who are not aware, during the day I teach Early Childhood Special Education and work with three, four, and five year olds with developmental delays, autism, and a host of other issues impacting their ability to perform like typically developing children.  So, this sort of charity is dear to my heart and although I will be at many of the wineries in Sonoma, I will be making a donation to Chicago’s Almost Home Kids.

If you can, please attend Sonoma in the City and while you are enjoying your wine, know that you are helping, in a small way, children and their families who appreciate your support.

Cheers to good wine and good deeds~  Cindy
