It’s Wednesday and you are already thinking about your weekend plans and perhaps which wines to purchase. Each Wednesday, I will post two recommendations for your weekend wine choices which are under $20.00 – one white and one red.
**Riesling Hugel 2010 - This delicious 100% Riesling is from the French winery Hugel and Fils in Alsace AOC. If you have never tasted a Riesling from Alsace, you may want to try this one. With a pale lemon color and aromas of flowers, lemon zest, and peach, the taste mirrored the aromas and its minerality gave the wine a light, crisp feel. Rieslings from Alsace are drier than their German counterparts and for this reason, I loved this wine (even though there are times for a little German…Riesling! The alcohol content was 12.8% and I paired the Riesling Hugel 2010 with sushi~ Retail cost? You can find this for various prices but all less than $14.00 so shop around!
**Rosenblum Cellars Vintner’s Cuvee XXXIII – I tasted this wine at a local wine shop and liked it well enough to purchase a bottle and give it more “tries”! Consisting of 88% Zinfandel and 12% Petit Sirah which was added just prior to bottling to add fruit flavors and more body, I enjoyed this smooth wine with medium body and balance. On the nose and palate, I noticed raspberries, plums, and cherries and some mocha thrown in! This wine is delicious with meat on the grill, hearty pastas or whatever you like and its alcohol content is a hearty 14.5% as well! However, the price point of $12.00 is on the lighter side which, like the wine, is pretty smooth! Consider drinking this wine now or let it age until 2013…if you can!
Cheers! ~ Cindy
