Wine for your Weekend – April 27-29, 2012 - Grape Experiences ...

Posted on April 25, 2012

It’s Wednesday and you are already thinking about your weekend plans and perhaps which wines to purchase.  Each Wednesday, I will post two recommendations for your weekend wine choices which are under $20.00 – one white and one red.

**2010 Champalou Vouvray – The Chenin Blanc grape is the main character in Vouvray, AC which is in the Touraine area of the Loire Valley of France.  This particular Vouvray is a still wine (as opposed to semi-sparkling and sparkling which some Vouvrays are..).  With a pale lemon color and youthful aromas of minerality, green apple, and melon, this dry and crisp wine tasted of green apples, pears, white flowers, and dare I say a smidgen of orange?  The acidity, fruit, and alcohol (12.5%) were well balanced in this wine and I loved its freshness…kind of reminded me that spring may be here soon!  Price tag?  Around $17.00~

**Tenuta Vitanza Quadrimendo Toscano 2005 - Alotta words which many may not understand, but…this wine is a half and half blend of Sangiovese and Merlot…and I get it!  From Tuscany, this hearty red had aromas of earth, raspberries, and strawberries and on the palate you can taste more of the same fruit with some white pepper and blackberries thrown in!  This will pair perfectly with a grilled steak with a nice rosemary rub.  I loved this red wine which had 13% alcohol, a price tag of $15.00, and a satisfying finish~

Cheers! ~ Cindy
