The unusually dry winter is not going to sour the wine grape industry in Santa Barbara County. Growers say they have been using well water and the recent heat has been a perfect recipe for the spring months.
They say a hard rain for several days or a deep spring freeze would crush their projections. Extremely cold weather last April did damage many crops.
Bob Lindquist with Qupe and Verdad wines says he is now looking for a good "set" when the flowering occurs.
He was one of the many winemakers talking about their crops and the industry at the Santa Barbara County Vintners' Festival over the weekend.
