Noble Grape Wines - Storing wine in your apartment

Making your own wine from a kit is fun, rewarding and cost saving.  Properly storing your wine will help it age and increase the flavour.

Building your own wine cellar doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated.  If you live in a house, the ideal spot is in a corner in your basement that’s away from the furnace. Apartment dwellers need a cool dark place, like a closet that is away from radiators and other heating equipment. Using an insulation board in your closet will help keep your wine cool.
Keep your wine in a dark, dry and well-ventilated spot where the temperature remains constant during the winter and summer months. Ideally, your wine cellar should be around 15 degrees Celsius. But having a constant temperature is the key, even if it has to be slightly warmer.

You can buy bottles at wine kit outlets like Noble Grape Wines in Etobicoke.  It’s a good idea to put a label on your wine bottles to help remember the type of wine it is. Also, when wine is stored with the label upwards, it’s easy to note how the sediment falls.

Have enough bins or racks so the bottles aren’t lying on top of each other.  Or, if you happen to have a wine case, place the bottle on its side to keep the corks moist.

If you don’t have the storage space after you’ve made several bottles of wine, ask your supplier to keep them for you.  At Noble Grape Wines www.noblegrapewines.ca, the staff is more than happy to help customers with storage.
