Calaveras Winegrape Alliance Wine Sierra Foothills California ...

Join vineyard specialist and "Mr. Personality" Steve Collum and the energetic Chloe Respess Thursday, March 8 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Murphys Historic Hotel for an evening you won't soon forget. The March Wines of the World will take you to unique international vineyards with "varietals you've never heard of," including Menica, a Spanish red, Godello, a Spanish white, Nero D'Avola from Sicily and Ribolla Gialla from Italy.

"What's really exciting is that these vines are now available at UC Davis, so you may see some of these planted in California in the near future," said Steve.

According to Chloe, "Wine production in California is an increasingly innovative industry. Wine made from Alicante, Bouschet, Graciano, Cinsault and Petit Verdot was once a rarity. As a more diverse selection of varietals become available to grape growers in the state, we ill see the once unknown spring into tasting rooms as Californians with curious and improving palates seek out new wine adventures. We invite you to tast the future and determine the most promising little-known wine of the night."

Cost is $20 for CWA members and $25 for non-members, and no reservations are needed. You are welcomed to dine at the hotel afterward with a $5 discount on each entree.

Leap into the varietal void and join us!  -Jan Hovey, CWA Blogger
